Director of Athletics Nancy Beatty has announced that Allison Shields and long-time varsity assistant Meg Filoon will serve as Interim Co-Head Coaches of the Varsity Girls’ Lacrosse Team this season while Head Coach Nicole Donoghue is on family leave.
Coach Filoon has been an integral part of Providence Day’s lacrosse program for several years as an assistant varsity coach and currently serves as a PD physical education teacher. Last season, she played a key role in assisting Coach Donoghue in leading the program to its first state championship. Filoon was a four-year letter winner in both field hockey and lacrosse at Denison University, serving as captain of both teams during her senior year. She earned All–North Coast Athletic Conference honors in both sports following her junior and senior seasons and was recognized as an NCAA Division III All-American in both field hockey and lacrosse. In addition, she was selected as a member of the North Coast Athletic Conference’s 10th anniversary “All-Decade” Team. In 1996, she was inducted into the Denison Hall of Fame.
Coach Shields joined the Providence Day community in August and serves as a lead first-grade teacher. She was a four-year scholarship member of the University of Virginia women’s varsity lacrosse team, earning ACC All-Academic honors and recognition on the UVA Athletic Honor Roll. Prior to PD, she was a third-grade teacher and girls varsity assistant coach at St. Anne’s-Belfield School in Charlottesville, VA, where she helped lead the team to three conference championships and two VISAA State Championships. Shields has also served as a head coach for CavLax Elite for five years and brings extensive experience supporting student-athletes through the college recruiting process.
We are both excited and confident with the leadership in place for our girls lacrosse program.
