Cross Country is a no-cut sport that looks to bring out the best runner in each student/athlete. At each level the goal for all XC athletes is to feel accomplished by the end of the season. The hope is that each runner will learn to take pride in working hard and doing a sport that certainly isn’t easy. Coaches hope that athletes will feel their efforts were rewarded in the end.

There are many life lessons to be had from running. At the varsity level, learning to grow in confidence while giving all of yourself is a goal for all. Respect is gained between teammates as each works to be their best. Coaches help athletes understand that running is definitely not a linear sport where improvement happens at a consistent rate and consistently. There will often be ups and downs but it’s the lesson of sticking with something that pays off in the long run. Coaches will help teach mental and physical preparation that hopefully will be understood on a much larger level than running.
