Providence Day Girls Basketball motto is “INAM” It’s Not About Me

PD Girls Basketball has a comprehensive basketball development program. Over 150 girls take part annually in Charger Basketball at the Lil’ Dribblers, IFBL (Inter-faith Basketball League, MS, JV, or Varsity levels. In addition, the PD Girls Basketball family has been passionate about giving back to the community by serving in yearly Play4kay and Samaritan’s Feet events. Providence Day was recognized in 2019 and 2020 by the Play4kay foundation as the National Champion (High School Division) for most funds received during that campaign.

The Chargers have produced a duo of post players recently named McDonald’s All-Americans. Jatarie White was Providence Day’s first to claim the honor in 2014, and Janelle Bailey earned the distinguished honor in 2017. In addition, Providence Day also boasts, a North Carolina record, seven North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year Award winners, including four in five years from 2012-2016. PD HOF member, Konecka Drakeford, won it twice in 1991 and 1993. Natasha Brackett, fellow PD HOF inductee, won it for the Chargers in 2001. Yet another Providence Day HOF member, Tiffany Mitchell, took home the award in 2012. Jatarie White won it in 2013 & 2014, and Erin Whalen recently took home the honors in 2016.

Providence Day has had three players represent USA Basketball and professionally around the world. Tiffany Mitchell ’12, Jatarie White ’14, and Janelle
Bailey ’17 have all led USA Women’s Basketball to gold medals.

Tiffany Mithchell ’12 was the first PD Girls Basketball player to be selected in the WNBA draft, where she was selected 9th overall by the Indiana Fever.
