For more than three decades, John has been a steady and trusted presence—taping ankles, conducting baseline tests, teaching Sports Medicine, and standing on the sidelines through all seasons and weather. But his role was far more than just the tasks he performed—it was about the relationships he built, the lives he impacted, and the unwavering support he gave to generations of student-athletes and coaches.

John was often the first on the field when injuries occurred, and the last to leave after a long night’s work. He operated behind the scenes, rarely in the spotlight, but always deeply appreciated by those whose well-being he protected. His dedication extended beyond campus—traveling throughout North Carolina and even across the globe to Beijing, China to support our athletes. He is recognized as a leading expert in his field, respected by colleagues far and wide.
